Event Description

When a family business forms, it brings with it the ‘spirituality’ (core values, beliefs and sense of purpose) of the founding members. The challenge for many family businesses is how to maintain, grow and evolve that sense of spirituality as they build their culture, respond to market shifts, make operational decisions and create succession plans.

This panel discussion, with Diane Nettifee of Magis Ventures and Nathan Dungan of Share Save Spend will focus on both the high level questions of how a family business clarifies their spiritual center and the pragmatic, day-to-day navigation of the decisions, challenges and opportunities of running a family business.

Questions explored include:

  • In a family business what do you articulate as most important, especially in a world that measures success primarily by growth and profitability of the financial bottom line?
  • How do we have healthy, effective conversations when we have different views?
  • What does alignment and congruence look like so our faith and work and deeply are integrated in all things from hiring to firing and how we think about money?
  • How do we balance the internal need to successfully grow and manage the family business while also responding to the many needs we see in the community and the world? Does our sense of spirituality call us to do both?
