Rhythms of Grace is a hybrid formation/worship opportunity intended for children with sensory challenges (SPD, ASD, or other sensitivies) that may make the typical Sunday morning offerings of Sunday School and Worship challenging, impossible, or simply stressful. We hope that Rhythms of Grace will allow families to worship together without fear of judgement and in an environment where neurodiversity is celebrated!
At Rhythms of Grace you can expect: a priest who "gets it"; caring volunteers; activities designed to meet sensory needs; and a simple service of Holy Eucharist where all are welcome.
Now, if your kid(s) like to know exactly what to... expect, you can let them know that:
-You will drive to St. Clement's and park either in the alley behind the church or out front of the church.
-You will enter through the doors with the "Parish Office" signs.
-A greeter will point you towards the parish hall (up the stairs, the large room with wooden floors and large skylights).
-In the parish hall, you can make yourself a name-tag and sign in.
-Your grown up will let the volunteer at the welcome table know if there is anything special you or your grown-ups might need help with
-Play dough and finger labyrinths will be available as people arrive.
-At 4:05pm the priest will invite everyone to gather in a circle to hear a story from the Bible in the church library. When you hear her start singing, "Jesus loves me" you will know it is time to gather.
-After the story, there will be sensory stations with activities set-up that will go with the story. The priest will let you know how much time we have for the activities. Volunteers and your grown-ups will help with the activities and play too.
-When time is up, the priest will start singing again to let people know it is time to re-gather for worship in the library
-Our worship service is short and includes a short prayer over the gluten-free crackers and grape juice.
-We will say the Lord's Prayer together.
-We will eat the crackers and share the juice.
-After the crackers and juice, we will leave the church with our grown-ups.
Please note: there is no loud organ music, any singing is done without instruments, the songs will be simple and easy to learn, all activities and participation is optional, we have a tent for anyone who needs a break, there are lots of fidgits on hand, we have extra noise canceling headphones, and stimming is welcome!
Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to support your family in worship!
Rhythms of Grace will be offered on the first Saturday of the month, through April, at 4pm. Please invite anyone you think may like to join us and know that we welcome your feedback as we seek to meet the needs of our families.
Finally, it's helpful to know who we might expect to join us--please respond to firstname.lastname@example.org you are planning on coming on Saturday so we can be sure to have enough materials for everyone!
