Event Description

Offered by Rev. Matthew Wright
Thursday, November 19 – Sunday, November 22 2020
$425 (Scholarships available) Student rate: $200

A popular retreat teacher, spiritual leader in numerous communities, and practitioner immersed in diverse wisdom traditions, Matthew Wright brings joy to his teachings on opening of the heart.

While on retreat, we will explore the Way of the Heart through three Wisdom streams: Sufism, Christianity, and Advaita Vedanta. We will offer particular attention to the teachings of Rumi, St. Theophan the Recluse, Ramana Maharshi, and Teilhard de Chardin. This silent retreat will include a rhythm of teaching, meditation, chanting, and embodiment practices.

Words from our teacher…
Our great spiritual traditions have often described the heart as an organ of spiritual perception-an “eye” by which we see from oneness. Through heart-awareness, we come to experience the universe qualitatively, rather than simply quantitatively. Wisdom teachings tells us that the heart reads reality by way of wholeness, resonance, and relationship. Living from the heart cultivates a new center of human selfhood, and opens us to the world of beauty, tenderness, and love. How do we awaken the heart?

Rev. Matthew Wright is an Episcopal priest, writer, and retreat leader working to renew the Christian Wisdom tradition in a wider interspiritual context. He serves as priest-in-charge at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Woodstock, NY and is a teacher for Northeast Wisdom and The Contemplative Society, nonprofits rooted in the teaching lineage of Cynthia Bourgeault.
