We've just resurrected our youth group here in Austin. I'm one of two "youth group mentors"... with four young people at this time. My co-mentor and I want this to be youth driven... we are trying to provide ideas for our monthly meetings at this point but mostly trying to encourage and offer some direction for our kids to make this "their" group... so that they can generate ideas for events and activities. I'm looking ahead for the spring and summer for a conference, day camp, resident camp, etc... anything happening in the diocese? and if not can we put something (s) together?
There are opportunities being planned. There will be a Jr. High urban adventure in Minneapolis in June and based out of Gethsemane.
There is a overnight camp opportunity - Episcopal Youth Music Camp for children and youth entering grade 3 in the fall of 2010 and goes through entering 12th grade. A music background is not needed. Youth just need a desire to have fun, like music, and want a deeper relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The camp is much more about faithformation than about music. Music is the vehicle we use to share the message and build commuity. Information and registrations can be obtained through the www.episcopalyouthmusic.org website. There are also a number of churches planning summer mission trips.
